Launched just before I moved to Asia, Feminist Footprints has three missions: to share what I have learned and experienced in my two decades of solo travel around the world, to highlight the lives and travel experiences of other women, and to shine a spotlight on women artists, activists, intellectuals, and issues that grab my attention.

Joining Hands With Spain

If you have read this month’s Feminist Footprints, you know that it takes us to Spain. My September post will also be set in Spain and I wanted to take a moment to express my sadness for the lives, joy, and innocence lost in the latest horrific terrorist attack in Barcelona. Barcelona is a wonderful, welcoming city, as is the country. It will survive, it will heal, as will its people. We global citizens will also heal but the only way to heal and grow and thrive is to stand together. We are stronger together. Sierra Leone is also in our hearts.

Spain Gets Handsy

In 1996, giddy with accomplishment---I had just graduated from Brooklyn College---I landed in Madrid, Spain. In the great tradition of Americans since the days of Edith Wharton and Henry James, I had gifted myself a duel coming of age/job well done trip to Europe.
